Here's a collection of favorable comments made on the list about Melissa Joan Hart. It must be stressed that in the early days, almost everyone on the list knew each other personally, so the tongue-in-cheek comments flew fast and furiously. You have to take a lot of what is said below in the spirit it was given: all in good, harmless fun. Otherwise, it all sounds just a little weird.
Its a cool show. Yeah, its a kids show. Its still a cool show.
^_^ And Melissa Joan Hart is damn cute. ^_^
> I hope she gets a new pet soon. Perhaps
>a nice cat named Oreo or Jingoro. :)Heh. You wish. ^_^ It'd be just like P-chan in Ranma 1/2 -- just an excuse to weasel into bed with her!

>Cuties! Cuties! We could get arrested for that though.Hey! You can't prove ANYTHING. ^_^
'Clarissa Explains it all' is watched because Pazu watches it and I wanted to see the girl that turned his head and made him dedicate his life to.Clarissa is pretty cool too. Amazing that a girl that young and into the pop culture thing is so clean looking - no zits!
Well, just finished watching the new Clarissa. *sigh*Did anyone see that nifty picture of Clarissa and Sam, tho? Gotta love those black leggings, too.
> Well, just finished watching the new Clarissa. *sigh*Hee hee! *sigh* from me too.
I did note, however, that That Bizarro Mag Chick(tm Pazu) was wearing a chupchup* shirt. Kinda weird...*: chupchup -> Robert Earl, who doesn't read this list last time I checked. But he does a groovy clothing thing.
polka dots, eh? Clarissa-babe seems to have pretty good taste. next she'll be wearing two belts! :-)
Heh. Probably not too far off, as everyone on this list knows that Clarissa Marie Darling wears the most wicked-cool clothing combos.
Has anyone seen any promo for Sunday? Any word on new episodes?-[``G''] (Rather intensly interested in Melissa Joan Hart)
You know, I *have* been meaning to start my days with a nice healthy breakfast anyway, and what better way to start the day than a great big bowl? With lots of milk. Yeah. Lots. Hope there's a prize inside.Wonder where she'd like to _go_ for lunch? Wonder what'd be up after? Hmmm... =)
Well, there WAS a new episode at 6:30, also. All about the evil guidance counselor, Ms. Cheesebrow, wanting to make Clarissa ``normal.'' We get to see Clarissa in a cheerleader outfit *sigh*, and also ``Oh, Those Darlings.''
I'd program in COBOL for a month if I could get a poster of Clarissa in her Punk outfit. (Well, maybe a week.)
And is it just me, or is she getting a lot, um, leggier than in the first year shows?
CEIA... well it wasn't a bad episode, but not really strong, either. Nice concept, but somehow it just didn't seem to come off really well. Blame a bit of it on Ms. Hart -- the kid they cast as the admirer couldn't keep up with her in the ``Poor Little Rich Girl'' segment, not to mention the Showdown over the Diary. She's too good! Can't resist mentioning that the Pete and Pete ``Summer Vacation'' special will be on next week (murmurs of ``so what'' from the electronic audience); have I mentioned my theory that Alison Fanelli could *almost* give Ms. Hart a run for the money in the comedic timing department (cries of ``heresy!'', ``get a rope!'', etc.) -- not to mention Megan Berwick from ``Salute your Shorts''...
Exit, pursed by electronic bear!
So we've had Ferg for Class Prez and Sam gets a Girlfriend and now Marshall and Janet get in a Huff.I could be wrong, but it seemed that Ms. Hart was sporting contact lenses in a couple of the scenes. (Particularly in the talk-mom-out-of-it one.) Given her awe-inspiring level of talent, _some_ sign of human frailty would be rather reassuring!
The writers have made some adjustments as the kids get older -- I can think of two early plot bits centering around Clarissa not filling out yet, and obviously after the New Intro _that_ idea's not going to reappear...
I thought N.P.P was a great episodeCEIA really boils down to putting the omni-talented Ms. Hart in front of the camera and letting her go, and that's just what they did!
Does anyone know what she meant in that ``True Stories, Famous People'' presentation when she said that she has no special talents?
I think she's just being modest. The ballet bit in the Old Opening looked pretty convincing, for instance. Though the noticable lack of songs in the 'Understudy' episode may suggest she's not a singer...
I think Clarissa would make a better president than Bush, Clinton, or Perot.
Did anyone else think Ms. Hart's clip on the Kids Pick show was... kinda pointless? I mean, she didn't really have anything to say. I'd gladly watch her recite the phone book, and really hearing from Ms. Hart instead of Clarissa would've been cool, but whoever wrote her lines didn't exactly come up with much for her to work with.
Has Clarissa taken to shoplifting from Victoria's Secret? And, if so, *WHO* is she planning on wearing it for??? More importantly, will we get to see her model it? :-)
BTW, is it too early to think about some sort of collective thing for Ms. Hart's birthday in April?
Secondly, I think now would be a good time to start planning some sort of collective gift for MJH's birthday. Any ideas on _WHAT_?
Hmmm... something simple, something a lot of people (like a mailing list, say :-) could sign... (virtually, if not physically).
The People article says that MJH and Clarissa like a lot of the same stuff except, Clarissa likes They Might Be Giants more. Melissa's favorite is R.E.M.Anyway, if we assume assume Melissa and Clarissa share the same likes, the something by Keith Haring would probably be okay. It would seem something REMish would be nice too.
Since there's almost two months until the start of April, it should be possible to Snail mail the gift(s) to everyone so that they could sign it.
I am involved with a snail mail chain right now associated with another group - they don't move very fast, regardless of the intentions of the folks in the chain. I wouldn't depend on that if I were you... Maybe have everyone that wants to participate send in something to a central address and then have that person send it in to MJH...
If MJH really is like Clarissa, then we should be wary of judging what she likes based on a 1991 article. Remember, in ``What Mom Doesn't Know'' (my title) after her mom realizes that her computerized test was rigged, Clarissa tells her, ``I don't even know half the things I like. All I know is that I like to change my mind-- all the time.'' We should seriously consider this point in choosing a gift.
Hey, an idea for something for MJH's birthday...a color notebook to play with and write some more games, in different places...<grin>
Some folks think Clarissa is a cutie. Some folks think that Sam is a cutie. I don't know of anyone who thinks Ferguson is a cutie though.
An August 25, 1991 article (which I had intended to have a copy of available for reference) says that ``Melissa is already grown-up beautiful.''
Well, I am almost crushed! She looks a little different ``in person'' than on the show.
She is quite different from CD. She has a 6'2" tall boyfriend, ``Mike''. He is like a surfer, or so she says.
Oh, and, uh, what's this about MJH having a BOYFRIEND?! And 6'2"?!? What is this world coming to?Shocked, disgusted, and just overly confused most of the time...
Chris
Yeah, just what is this stuff about a BOYFRIEND? 6'2"? I think my whole image of MJKH just went down the toilet... *sigh*
As someone who is 6'1'' and into the surf music scene I find all this news about the boyfriend quite a positive thing.
> Someone asked me if I liked CEIA because Clarissa was cute and young.
> After thinking about it, I had to disagree.Hmm...As coming from the age group Clarissa is in, I say I watch CEIA becaust Clarissa _is_ cute and young :>
For the most, same here, but, I also find her extremely cute, AND, I think she does a damn good job with the character...I wish I could find a girlfriend A LOT like her!
I guess I better be honest - she is very cute, and in general I have always found younger females to be more my taste (I avoid them *that* young though!).
I thought that Clarissa looked considerably older in the ``Blind Date from Hell'' sequence than she is usually made to appear. Of course, she was the prototypical fairy-tale princess.
> I saw the Nick News thing on Melissa and Clarissa
> today. Did you know that Melissa has freckles and
> Clarissa doesn't? They just white them out.
> It certainly makes her look younger. Melissa
> looks much older than Clarissa does.Yeah, I think she's actually much better looking withou the makeup.
> I thought that Clarissa looked considerably older in the ``Blind Date
> from Hell'' sequence than she is usually made to appear.Yep. Those scary curls in that ``hell'' scene...UGH!
Was it just me, or did anyone else who's seen the ad think that MJH/Clarissa looked TOTALLY _HOT_ in that tight-fitting, skimpy ST uniform? YOW!Thinking bad, bad thoughts,
Scott
Oh, you mean like having the phrase ``Where no man has gone before'' running through your mind??Followups to rec.arts.startrek.clarissa.recovery.
-- Jim Davis | ``But I'll bet it wouldn't hurt just to try it once.'' jdavis@cs.arizona.edu | -- Clarissa Darling
Yeah, that's it... Sort of a ``12 Step'' program:``Hello. My name is Scott. I've been watching Clarissa since it's inception. I suppose I had bad thoughts all along, but it was the Star Trek skit that made me realize I needed help...''
> ``But I'll bet it wouldn't hurt just to try it once...''
> -- Clarissa DarlingI'm not even gonna touch that one! :)
(I would've paid Nick good money to sub for Jason Zimbler in the N.P.P. chase scenes and pillow fight.)
How old is Melissa Hart, anyway? Why does she have to be so cute?
The Afraid? episode wasn't much of a stretch for Melissa, as Daphne was pretty much Clarissa in casual clothes: same hair and freckle-blotting makeup, a Ferg-like relationship with the little rich kid (and a great if-looks-could-kill gaze just before tossing him out of her bedroom), and a Clarissa-like spunkiness about dealing with the ghost. [...] And like all but one of the Afraid? episodes I've seen, this one had a pat happy ending. Melissa's capable of much more.
Is it just me, or does Melissa's schedule sound incredibly busy? I recall having a lot more disposable energy at 17 then I do now, and (unless a lot has changed over the years) it's not a major challenge to get through high school, but between commuting to and from Orlando, a theater group, interning with Nick, and shooting a sitcom, I surprised she has a free day at all!
