From the Daily Dish at TVGen:
Fresh from shooting the made-for-TV movie Sabrina Goes to Rome in Italy, Melissa Joan Hart is gearing up for another season of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. "Sabrina has a family secret that she has to figure out through the whole season, and she's going to meet one quirky relative every week," the petite blond cutie revealed. Is Hart's real-life family unusual, too? "Oh, yeah. Maybe not as wacky as the ones on TV, but in their own way, they're all pretty wacky. And they're going to kill me for saying that."
An earlier blurb from People Online has this to say about the new Sabrina movie:
Sabrina's Melissa Joan Hart, who stars in this fall's made-for-TV movie Sabrina Goes to Rome, based on the characters in her ABC series, plays alongside her steady boyfriend, aspiring actor James Fields, who portrays the friend of a guy trying to catch Hart in the act of witchcraft.
According to a CNS [Christian News Service?] article, ``List of Family Friendly Shows Released'', by Judy Cooley [edited]:
CBS's "Touched By An Angel" topped the Parents Television Council's list of family friendly primetime television shows again this year. The show, which falls under the list called "Diamond Dozen Shows", was based on the 1997-1998 television season.[...]
"Primetime television was more polarized this past season in the family-friendly category," said Mark Honig, PTC Executive Director. "The success of shows like 'Touched By An Angel' and '7th Heaven' that lead our Diamond Dozen Shows illustrate that families embrace shows that provide family-friendly fare," Honig added.
[...]
The PTC [...] ranked the following as The Diamond Dozen Shows:
- Touched By An Angel (CBS)
- 7th Heaven (WB)
- Promised Land (CBS)
- Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman (CBS-now cancelled)
- Early Edition (CBS)
- Smart Guy (WB)

Repeat of Lindsay Sloane's The Wonder Years episode.
Archie Comics' Sabrina the Teenage Witch #17 features a story in which Sabrina meets Josie and the Pussycats. You can read more about it at the Comic Book Continuum.
According to a blurb in the 07 Aug 1998 issue of Entertainment Weekly, Sigourney Weaver is apparently interested in appearing on STTW because her 8 year-old daughter likes show. Another possible guest on the same episode: Jo Anne Worley (who was in Family Reunion: A Relative Nightmare with Melissa in 1995).
The Sabrina Goes to Rome movie that Melissa did this summer, on The Wonderful World of Disney.

A 19 Nov 1997 Reuters/Variety article says:
ABC has also announced some changes to its TGIF lineup, starting Dec. 5. As expected, the sitcom ``You Wish'' is gone from the lineup, and ABC will double-pump ``Sabrina: the Teenage Witch'' instead.``Sabrina'' will run at 8 p.m. and at 9 p.m., some weeks with two originals, some weeks with repeats in one or both of the timeslots. ``Boy Meets World'' will air at 8:30 p.m., and ``Teen Angel'' will air at 9:30 p.m.
John Porter says, ``Tiger Electronics are bringing out a 'Virtual Salem' toy'' (he spotted this in an issue of Nickelodeon magazine). I've also seen it mentioned in a commercial on ABC shown during TGIF. It's one of those ``virtual pets'' you keep hearing about...
According to a 13 Nov 1997 Reuters/Variety article:
[ABC] has locked in the sophomore TGIF sitcom ``Sabrina: The Teenage Witch'' through 1999-2000
Majorly cool!! :-)
The article goes on to say:
For the season thus far, ``Sabrina'' has averaged an 8.2 household rating and 16 share. The Melissa Joan Hart starrer is expected to bow in syndication in fall 2000, and is likely to be highly sought-after as an afternoon show. The ``Sabrina'' franchise is spreading fast. On the heels of a successful ``Sabrina'' TV movie for the ``Wonderful World of Disney,'' an animated spinoff is now in the works, possibly for ABC's Saturday morning lineup, sources said.
The Nov 7th TGIF, according to TV Guide Online
Tonight's TGIF lineup turns back the clock and taps into four decades' worth of pop culture. The time warp begins on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch when Salem the cat gets his paws on a time ball and summons the 1960s. Sabrina tries to recover the magical device to get back to the future, but Salem takes off, making stops---and drastic changes---on the sitcoms that follow. Teen Angel: Marty transforms the family hound into a '70s-style, disco-dancing date for Judy, but the pooch unfortunately retains his canine mannerisms. Boy Meets World: Cory proposes to Topanga in 1941 before going to fight in World War II. You Wish: Genie becomes a poetry-reading '50s beatnik, while Travis takes up drag racing.
Girl Games is developing a CD-ROM game based on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (and Clueless, too). It's scheduled for release in Oct 1997.
A recent press release states:
Davidson / Simon & Schuster will launch a new line of entertainment and self-discovery software exclusively for girls. Two new CD-ROMs, developed by Girl Games, Inc., are the result of extensive usability testing and research which has proven that girls prefer an open-ended approach to computer gaming.Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, The True Test of Friendship
Based on the hit TV show, this entertaining, activity-based CD-ROM transports girls into Sabrina's world, where they help the popular heroine get back her lost magical powers.
Ages: 8 to 12
Approximate Price in Stores: $30
Estimated Ship Date: Holiday season
A 5 Jun 1997 BusinessWire article said:
Simon & Schuster Interactive/Davidson (CUC Software)Sabina: [sic!] The Teenage Witch, based on the ABC hit television show, this game positions the player in Sabrina's world, where she finds herself helping the popular heroine out of any number of supernatural jams. Targeted for young girls ages 7 to 12, the title will be available November '97, est. st. price is $29.95.
Melissa made a brief appearance as Sabrina in the Halloween episode of Boy Meets World. Description from Ultimate TV:
"The Witches of Pennbrook" -- Witches seem to be invading Pennbrook College when Candace Cameron, guest starring as Jack's spooky new girlfriend, causes a serious rift between the roommates after Eric tells Jack that he caught her practicing witchcraft; and an unsuspecting Eric goes on a date with a teenage witch named Sabrina. Meanwhile, Cory takes Topanga on her first airplane ride, flown by a not-so-bright pilot, on "Boy Meets World," FRIDAY, OCT. 31 (9:00-9:30 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.
Note: The time has been changed in the above description to reflect the recent change to ABC's TGIF lineup.
A 20 Oct 1997 Hollywood Reporter article reports:
Viacom is also close to reaching a licensing agreement for a line of "Sabrina" cosmetics.
Caroline Rhea participated in an online chat on America Online. And I have the totally hilarious transcript to prove it.
The second season of STTW began with an hour-long episode on 26 Sep 97 at 8pm ET. Here's some info about the new season:
The following comes from Chris "Sampo" Cornell on the
rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc
newsgroup:
Here are some of the headlines from the latest Frank Info Club newsletter.Pre-production for the second season of "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" has begun. Frank has been promoted to Executive Story Editor for the new season. Joel Hodgson, on the other hand, is moving on and will not be returning to his role of Magic Consultant.
[...]
Also, according to Tim Sneddon:
Paul Feig [...] says that his character will not be returning to the series in the second season, except for a few bits where he plays a guidance councilor.
You can read more about this at Paul Feig's homepage.
ICEKING01 quotes this month's 16 magazine:
Look for Sabrina, The Teenage Witch to come back in September, on ABC at 8pm. News bulletin on the show is Michelle Beaudoin, who plays Jenny, will not be back.
Melissa talked about the new season in an ABC Cybercast chat (happened in May, I think):
ABChost: from Bethany Gray of Lincoln, IL: Is anyone ever going to find out that Sabrina is a witch?Melissa: This season we're going to have a nosy schoolmate who wonders whats up.
ABChost: from Wayne Facer of Chiloquin, OR: What changes are we going to see for Sabrina the teenage witch?
Melissa: She'll have some new friends. Probably a new boyfriend, but Harvey will still be her friend.
A 22 Jul 1997 Entertainment Wire article states:
Versatile actor Martin Mull, most recently seen on "Roseanne" as Leon, has signed on to play the role of the school's vice principal on "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" (Fridays, 8-8:30 p.m./ET) from Heartbreak Films in association with Viacom Productions. Also joining the cast this season is Alimi Ballard as The Quizmaster, a playful, energetic witch from another realm. Most recently, Ballard appeared on "Arsenio" as the brilliant loafer, Matthew.
Mull plays the vice principal, who is Sabrina's nemesis. He focuses on sports rather than academics and always suspects that there is something a little peculiar about Sabrina (Melissa Joan Hart). As fate would have it, he will also have an unrequited love interest with Sabrina's Aunt Hilda (Caroline Rhea).
[...]
Ballard, as The Quizmaster, will administer a series of tests to Sabrina over the course of the season so she can officially acquire her witch's license. The series of tests will teach Sabrina how to be a more responsible witch.
[...]
"Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" premiered last fall and finished the season as the No. 1 rated series with kids and teenagers in all of television. The series is executive produced by Paula Hart and Miriam Trogdon. Holly Hester is the co-executive producer. The series stars Melissa Joan Hart, Caroline Rhea, Beth Broderick, Nate Richert, Jenna Leigh Green, Nick Bakay, Alimi Ballard and Martin Mull.
"Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" is a production of Hartbreak Films in association with Viacom Productions.
Jim Boulden of Animal Makers says that the mechanical Salem has received another makeover and ``will be looking his best'' for the new season.
Finally, the 06-12 Sep 1997 issue of TV Guide (cover: ``Returning Favorites'') previews the new season of STTW. Some interesting tidbits:
You can see the full text of the article at TV Guide Online.
Yet another showing of the Sabrina, the Teenage Witch movie.
John Porter reports:
I was Watching Entertainment Tonight UK on Paramount Comedy last night, and they aired a report on Sabrina (more specifically, on the Sabrina doll line). Sadly ET UK is now only airing at 1am, so I didn't have a chance to tape it second time around, but it was very interesting nonetheless. Melissa, Nate, and Nick Bakay were all talking about their respective toys, and their comments were quite interesting :
- Melissa : ``I think it looks like Barbie!''
:-)
She also noted that they've got the eyebrows down, and pointed out something about the mouth, which I missed.- Melissa also revealed that she had to pose for three hours while they did sketches of her from every angle - one of which was shown. The sketches were clearly of Melissa, so obviously didn't get used much...
- Oh, and she was quick to display the 'magic hand' function.
- Nate joked about how his doll had 'kung fu grip action!' and uh... that was about it. Nick B said something about how the Salem toy talks like him, and aside from the fact that they aired lots of clips of the show (most from episodes we've not seen over here... maybe they're season 2 clips, I dunno) that was about it.
