TBS has been showing America's Funniest People for a while now (three episodes in a row each Sat morning). ``Circumstantial evidence'' made me think Melissa's episode (originally aired 17 Oct 1993) was coming up soon, but it looks like they're still playing episodes from the previous season. (Or maybe playing them again. I don't know.)
According to a post to the German newsgroup maus.rec.laserdiscs
,
Can't Hardly Wait is coming out on DVD (on the Columbia label)
on Dec 22nd.
(Thanks to Lars Luthe
and Christoph Steinecke [author of original post] for this info.)
Melissa is the star of this film which has now completed principal photography and is due to be released in the spring. According to a Reuters/Variety article, ``She [plays] a young woman who has grown up next door to a boy her age, but the two never made a love connection. Not until they gather for their high school's centennial celebration do they realize that they were meant for one another all along.'' (Note: The film was originally titled Girl Gives Birth to Prom Date, but this was changed after a rather unpleasant national news story involving a girl, a prom, and a birth.)
Apparently, this movie is no longer happening. The info below is from when it looked like it was. More info later.
A Hollywood Reporter article reports:
The Paris-based Alain Siritzky Prods. will also produce "Running With Scissors," a teen comedy budgeted at $2.5 million-$3 million with an ensemble cast that includes Sam Rockwell, Steve Zahn, Melissa Joan Hart and Giovanni Ribisi. Director Carlos Brooks will make his feature filmmaking debut.
More info from the Hollywood Reporter:
Running With Scissors (Comedy)
(Start May 11) Shooting in Los Angeles, Seattle; Maple Palm Prods./Alain Siritzky Prods., 1640 5th St., #114, Santa Monica, CA 90401; Cast: Steve Zahn, Giovanni Ribisi, Tom Everett Scott, Robyn Peterman, Sam Rockwell, Melissa Joan Hart; ExPrd., Bill Bromiley; Prd., Dave Thomas; CoPrd., David Baxter, Jonathan Josell; Dir., Carlos Brooks; Scr., Carlos Brooks; Cstg., Amy Elizabeth Sabel, Richard Hicks
(Note: Amy Elisabeth Sabel's name is misspelled in the above blurb.)
Finally, a blurb from ZENtertainment says:
Comedian/recent author Dave Thomas (SCTV, Grace Under Fire, Strange Brew) has opened MAPLE PALM Productions, an independent film company with offices in Santa Monica and Toronto. MAPLE plans to initially produce 2 or 3 feature films a year, and at least one TV movie a year, and their first film AMBUSHED, which began production in North Carolina last week, stars Courtney B. Vance, Jeremy Lelliott, William Forsythe, David Keith and Virginia Madsen. Other films on the way from the production company include OUT OF ORDER (starring Chevy Chase), JUST A COUPLE OF DICKS, RUNNING WITH SCISSORS (starring Steve Zahn, Tom Everett Scott, and Giovani Ribisi), and a sequel to STRANGE BREW.

Melissa hosted a special called America's Teenagers: Growing up on Television. TV Guide Online described it as follows:
Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina, the Teenage Witch) hosts a retrospective on how teens have been portrayed on TV over the last five decades. Still being edited at press time, the program is slated to screen scenes from some 300 programs -- from Leave It to Beaver (1957-63) to Happy Days (1974-84) to Beavis & Butt-Head (1993-97). According to executive producer Charles Duncombe (who had access to the vast video library at the Museum of Television and Radio), the clips are thematically arranged ``to follow a natural arc of adolescence from parenting issues to the social world of high school and friends to dating, sex and graduation leaving the teen years behind.''

Repeat of Boy Meets World episode ``The Witches of Pennbrook'', in which Melissa appears.
An episode of Saturday Night Live that Melissa was reportedly in, but last time it was shown on Comedy Central, her part was cut (episode 84k).
Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert reviewed Can't Hardly Wait on their show Siskel & Ebert. (They didn't like it.)
Another special: On the Set of ``Can't Hardly Wait''. I don't know if Melissa was in it. Complete list of airing times:
Melissa's first theatrical-release movie, originally called The Party and now called Can't Hardly Wait, was released Jun 12th.
For more info, see its entry in the Internet Movie Database or this little write-up about it at Entertainment Weekly Online. Or you can read an article about the movie's soundtrack.
Special listed as Behind the Scenes of ``Can't Hardly Wait'', but actually titled something else, I believe. Melissa was only in it in clips from the movie. Repeated at 2pm and 9:30pm ET on Sat, Jun 13th.
An episode of Saturday Night Live that Melissa was in (episode 84h or #404, containing the ``Santa the Terminator'' promo parody).
Repeat of Take a Moment special.
Melissa hosted, with Donald Faison, a special entitled Take a Moment, kicking off ``Tune In to Kids and Family Week II'', 08-14 Jun 1998. A 27 Apr 1998 PRNewswire article said:
``Take A Moment'' will be televised on Monday, June 8 (7:30-8:00 p.m.) as part of an unprecedented industry collaboration that features 29 networks carrying the special simultaneously: America's Health Network, Animal Planet; Bravo; CBS Eye on People; Cartoon Network; Disney Channel; Encore's eleven networks (STARZ!, STARZ!2, BET Movies/STARZ!3, Encore, MOVIEplex and its theme channels Love Stories, Westerns, Mystery, Action, True Stories and WAM! America's Kidz Network); Fox Sports New England; Game Show Network; The History Channel; Kaleidoscope; Knowledge TV; MSG Network; Nick at Nite's TV Land; Nickelodeon; Odyssey Channel; Ovation; Romance Classics and TOON Disney. In addition, some networks plan to telecast the special during other times throughout the week.Sponsored by the National Cable Television Association, ``Take A Moment'' combines music, humor, improvisation and conversation between real parents and kids to address family communication and how television impacts it. Danny Devito, Gregory Hines, Phil Hartman, Montel Williams, Malik Yoba, Derek Jeter, Kathy Ireland, Rosie O'Donnell, Hanson, Drew Barrymore, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds, Scott Wolf and Lacey Chabert are among the celebrities scheduled to relate stories about family communication while they were growing up or with their own kids and about the influence of TV on their lives. Included at the end of the program will be two: 30 second PSAs featuring Rosie O'Donnell and Captain Kangaroo.
Melissa was on Access Hollywood. The show is syndicated and so aired on different days in different markets.
According to a BusinessWire article, the Hollywood premiere of Can't Hardly Wait took place ``at Mann's Chinese Theatre, 6925 Hollywood Blvd., with a party immediately following at the Hollywood Athletic Club, 6525 Hollywood Blvd.'' But Melissa was not listed among the stars of the movie that were to attend!
(Note: She really was there, as this picture from Hollywood Online proves.)
However, other stars of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch including Nate Richert (Harvey), Lindsay Sloane (Valerie), Alimi Ballard (Quizmaster), Jenna Leigh Green (Libby), and Beth Broderick (Zelda) were scheduled to attend.
The movie opened nationwide on Jun 12th; see the entry for this date above for more info.
Melissa was scheduled to attend the premiere of Hope Floats at Mann Village, 961 Broxton, Westwood. Arrivals began at 6:30pm, the screening at 7:30pm.
Russ McNiff says that the weekend edition of Entertainment Tonight has a ``behind the scenes photo shoot and interview regarding the recent TEEN mag that Melissa is on.''
Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards (Latino America Version). I think this was for all of Central and South America. It was rebroadcast sometime on Sun, 17 May 1998. (Thanks to Wilton Lee and Christian Szita for this info.)
There was a live online chat with several TGIF stars, including Melissa, on America OnLine immediately following TGIF.
Melissa was the subject of a clue on Jeopardy! It was an audio clue for $400 in the category ``20th Century Classical Music'' in ``Double Jeopardy!'' in one of the College Championship matches. The clue was something like: ``The classic piece heard here with Clarissa actress Melissa Joan Hart explaining it all,'' accompanied by a clip from her Peter & the Wolf CD. (The wording is probably not exactly right since I wasn't taping the show.)
Apparently, Melissa attended the premiere of Warner Bros.' first animated feature The Quest for Camelot at Mann's Chinese Theater and/or the ``Quest Carnival'' being held on the Warner Bros. backlot. Arrivals began at 1:30pm, the movie screening at 2:30pm, and the Quest Carnival immediately following the screening.
Melissa appeared in a short taped segment on the 1000th episode of Ricki Lake (syndicated). A PRNewswire article says:

Melissa was a contestant on Jeopardy! along with Fred Savage and Alicia Witt. (Note that TV Guide -- online and print versions -- had this show listed on Fri, but it was on Tue instead.)
A 27 Apr 1998 Washington Post article mentions Melissa in relation to a Vanity Fair party held at the Russian Trade Federation Building following this year's White House Correspondents' Association dinner. It's not clear whether she was actually there, though. The relevant paragraph:
After the dinner, the Vanity Fair party was the place to be. The privileged jumped into cabs and limos to drive the half-block to the soiree at the Russian Trade Federation Building, which offered sushi spring rolls and a lit-up patio and couches on the lawn and revealing dresses. Young, blond television actresses like Melissa Joan Hart discussed ``career longevity'' while their boyfriends talked on cell phones. White House aide Sidney Blumenthal and Drudge, currently pitted against each other in a lawsuit, refused to acknowledge each other's presence.
According to a BusinessWire article, Melissa was scheduled to attend the 34th Annual Humanitarian Award Dinner held by the National Conference of Christians and Jews, honoring Sumner M. Redstone (chairman of the board and CEO of Viacom) and chaired by Barry Diller. The event took place at the Century Plaza Hotel, 2025 Avenue of the Stars.
According to a UPI report, Melissa taped the Take a Moment TV special to be broadcast Jun 8th (see upcoming stuff, above) on this day at Caroline's Comedy Nation in Manhattan.

Melissa's TV movie Silencing Mary, which was originally scheduled to air on Sun, 12 Oct 1997, but was rescheduled for some unknown reason.
The ``Fall Preview'' issue of TV Guide reported:
Silencing Mary (NBC, Oct. 12) - A college freshman (MJH) spearheads a controversial crusade against date rape after her roommate (Lisa Dean Ryan) is attacked by a star football player (Josh Hopkins). With James McDaniel, Corin Nemec, and Peter MacNicol.
Back on 28 Feb 1997, during an MTV appearance, Melissa had this to say about this movie:
``Yeah, um... This summer I have, like, a four month hiatus, so between seasons, I'm gonna do, um, an NBC movie of the week called Campus Justice, which is about... this girl who gets raped at school and... and I'm, like, a school paper... an---no, I'm her roommate and I work for the school paper, so I try to figure out who did it and why...''
Ultimate TV reviewed the movie as follows:
MELISSA JOAN HART STARS IN HER SECOND MADE-FOR-TELEVISION MOVIE FOR NBC, 'SILENCING MARY' TWO-HOUR DRAMA ABOUT A RAPE COVER-UP ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS TO BE TELECAST MARCH 8 ON NBCLisa Dean Ryan, James McDaniel, Peter MacNicol and Josh Hopkins Also Star
Special "The More You Know" PSA to Air In Connection with the Movie
Melissa Joan Hart ("Sabrina, the Teenage Witch"), who made her made-for-television movie debut last season in NBC's "Twisted Desire," continues her relationship with the Peacock network by starring in "Silencing Mary," a two-hour drama about a college student who becomes a one-woman crusader for justice when her roommate is raped by the school's star football player. It will be telecast Sunday, March 8 (9-11 p.m. ET), on NBC.
Emmy nominee Corin Nemec ("I Know My First Name Is Steven," "Operation Dumbo Drop"), Lisa Dean Ryan ("Doogie Howser, M.D."), Peter MacNicol ("Chicago Hope"), James McDaniel ("NYPD Blue") and Josh Hopkins (Ridley Scott's "G.I. Jane") also star.
The idea for the movie, which is executive produced by Melissa's mother, Paula Hart, grew out of a conversation between Melissa and her sister, Trisha, a college freshman who is a co-producer on the film. Kay Hoffman ("Danielle Steel's 'The Ring,"' "Night Visitors") is the producer. Steve Johnson ("Love's Deadly Triangle: The Texas Cadet Murder") is the writer. Craig Baxley ("Twisted Desire") directs the presentation from Hartbreak Films in association with Viacom Productions.
Mary Stuartson (Hart) is proud and grateful to be the first in her family to attend a university, but when her roommate (Ryan) is raped by the school's star football player (Hopkins), Mary, who is a reporter for the college newspaper, begins her own investigation which uncovers a number of similar unprosecuted incidents of campus violence. Suffering harassment from members of the football team and pressure from university officials who don't want to expel their star quarterback in the middle of a championship drive, Mary must decide whether to withdraw her allegations or push for campus justice.
The movie will be followed by a PSA featuring Melissa Joan Hart urging anyone who has been raped to seek help by calling the National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1-800-799-SAFE. The PSA was produced under the umbrella of NBC's Emmy and Peabody Award-winning "The More You Know" public service campaign.
Cast (Role - Player): Mary Stuartson - Melissa Joan Hart; David MacPherson - Corin Nemec; Clay Roberts - Josh Hopkins; Holly Shavers - Lisa Dean Ryan; Harvey Thiel - James McDaniel; Lawrence Dixon - Peter MacNicol; Billy - Lochlyn Munro; Brubaker - Teryl Rothery; Gardner - Garry Chalk; Augie - Colin Laurence; Helen Stuartson - Susan Hogan; Bobby - Emily Hart

(ellipses in the original)
In the second panel, their incomprehension continues as the announcer says "And guest host Melissa Joan Hart!"
In the third panel, the teenage son says to us: "You know you're old when you don't recognize the band OR the host on 'Saturday Night Live'," as Dad says "I think I'll go soak my teeth," and Mom yawns.
